Saving Money On Cell Phones
Today I’m starting a blog! Woo hoo! As the economy in my area spirals downward, I’m looking for ways to safeguard our finances and do money before anything major happens that will force me to. Preventative maintenance I guess you could say! I thought to try to find one way per day to save money – and by blogging about it, it will help me support track of what I’m saving as well as giving me added incentive to keep trying. And, if I can help anyone else out be giving them ideas for saving money, then that’s an added bonus!!
Today I got my cell phone bill and I got thinking about what we pay for these in addition to having a landline and it scared me. My husband and I don’t have fancy Blackberry’s or the primo plans with unlimited internet or anything, but, we still pay $85 a month for something we really don’t utilize that much. That’s $1,020 a year!!! So, I went onto the website for my cell phone company and started doing a little research. I looked at which view we had and dug out some of my old cell phone bills for the past year. I realized that while I’m currently paying for 700 minuted a month, I could get by with the 550 exiguous per month plan and assign myself $10 a month!! I also looked at what I pay for texting and realized that even if I paid the per text rate, I’d probably never go over my limit. So, I’ve decided to downgrade that feature for an additional savings of $5 per month.
While this seems petty, think about what we pay for a cell phone plan over the course of a year. YIKES! Unprejudiced to stay in touch Granted, some people use them a lot for family and work, but, looking at my bear area, this was an easy way to do $180 per year – just for about 20 minutes of my time and one phone call.
If you already are using the minimum opinion for your cell phone service, take a look at their website and see if they have any promotions that are cheaper than what you’re currently paying. These days, it doesn’t hurt to call them and tell them you’d like the same deal that they are currently offering to current customers. Or, if another carrier has an incredible deal, check what you would owe to “buyout” of your current contract – it may be worth the $200 to place much more than that a year!!
