Best Places For Part-timetemporary Jobs In Columbus Ohio
I contain one of the best places to work piece time in Columbus is Macy’s, which used to be Lazarus. Their normal associate positions in the various men or women’s departments are nice, but if you have any experience in sales and/or cosmetics what-so-ever then you need to focus on the make-up lines. I personally worked with a couple of the cosmetic lines before becoming a stay at home mom and I got paid titanic money! They least amount I ever received was $10.75 per hour plus commission, and that was 6 years ago. The last time I worked for Macy’s was almost 2 years ago and I was getting paid almost $15.00 and hour to be a make-up artist for one of the lines. The awful side is the hours during sales and Christmas, but they execute up for it with all of the commission you make on top of your wages.
Another place I have personally heard is mountainous to work for is Borders Books and Music. I know someone that works for Borders and likes the flexibility they give part timers, along with how “family oriented” they can be. This person also told me they are pretty good at letting you switch shifts among the other employees and they are very good at understanding family issues when they arrive. I’m not certain the pay rate, but the hours vary. Most retail establishments like to have you work at least one weekend night or sometimes weekend day if you are part time. You can actually go to the Borders website and apply online if you don’t have time to run into the store.
If you like your weekends and nights free, but only want part time work, then look into Safelite Glass Corp. There corporate office is located off Sawmill road but they also have a “call center” environment off Schrock Road. Some of the fraction time positions have weird hours, especially if it is in the call center, but if you have any technical experience with a degree then peep into their IT jobs. They tend to list most of them on the Dice website and a majority of them are full time, but they do hire part time in some cases. You can visit the corporate office (you can see the building off I-270 at Sawmill) and submit a resume. Human Resources is located on the 3rd floor and there is normally a person at the front desk of the lobby when you enter, in order to get you to the 3rd floor.
There are always tons of businesses, especially retail, hiring around the holidays for temporary positions and sometimes even part time positions. Some of the better places to work temporarily are:
-seasonal associates at the main department stores. If you don’t like sales, then look into working stock in the back area. Some of the main stores around Columbus are Macy’s, JcPenny’s, Sears, Saks Fifth Avenue, and the Von Maur.
-seasonal or part time attend at large grocery and all-in-one stores such as Meijer or the new “upgraded” versions of Kroger’s. My friend was a “stocker” at Meijer part time for a shrimp while and she said it wasn’t too bad. The pay could have been better, but she was able to work the late shift at night when the store was nearly empty. They are also a union company, which does carry its benefits, but you have to contemplate into if they offer it to the part timers. The seasonal or temporary help probably doesn’t get that luxury.
-Hobby Lobby. There is a Hobby Lobby off of Sawmill Road and they have been looking for part time and possibly temporary support, since it is near Christmas. The relieve of Hobby Lobby? They’re closed on Sundays. So you would always have a guaranteed weekend day off, no matter what.
-The malls. The malls slap together “wrapping stations” around Christmas. What’s easier than wrapping presents? Why not score paid to do it?
-They also have the various kiosks throughout the malls that contain different types of businesses. Most of them have serve wanted signs up now and a majority of them are for part time work. Have you watched the people that work at the kiosks? They are normally just sitting around clicking at their laptops and looking busy. I’m sure you would have sales quotas, but they would have to be within reason.
There are some really grand part time jobs around the Columbus, OH area. If you happen to have a degree, especially in computer science then your opportunities are virtually endless. Columbus has a lot of big named IT companies or companies with great IT departments. Some of them worth checking into are:
-OCLC
-Verizon
-Ross Labs
-The Honda Plant (located in Marysville, 20 minutes from Dublin)
-Nationwide Insurance
-Any of the jobs for different City and State of Ohio Organizations
-Ashland Oil
Another option is to go to a company such as Office Team and apply so they can space you depending on your experience and knowledge. I went to Office Team a couple of years ago, and even though they focus mostly on full time work, they did have some part time and temporary positions from time to time. This is great to spend if you are not desperately in need of a job all of the time or right away. They do have you take several “tests” to measure your skills on a computer, so be prepared to spend a couple hours at your initial visit. As far as pay goes, they are pretty average for office work. Plus, they offer benefits through them instead of the companies they place you with, once you work with them for so long.
However, if you are limited on time you have to submit your resume then go to various companies’ websites. Most big businesses have a great website where they list the positions they have open, and most of them allow you to submit a resume to them via the internet. Many of them also use career sites such as Dice, Monster, or Career Builder. If all else fails, check out the Dispatch online. You can narrow your search to whatever you are looking for in a job.
